Routine podiatry

A routine podiatry appointment is the main service provided by foot specialists and focuses on treating any issues with your skin and nails. Many people struggle to manage their own feet for different reasons, inability to reach their feet, difficulty cutting thickened toenails and excessive hard skin build up. Routine podiatry is a general service to help maintain toenails, hard skin build up and overall foot health. Most patients come back every 6-8 weeks for routine nail trimming and ongoing care while some patients with just hard skin build up may only need to come back every 3-6 months.

Fungal nails

Fungal nail infections (onychomycosis) are quite common and can affect both the fingernails and toenails. A fungal nail infection causes discolouration and thickening to the nail which can lead to discomfort and nail cutting difficulties. We can help manage these nails and offer advice on ways to clear the infection.

Clearanail Treatment

This is a relatively new treatment for fungal nail infections. A simple, safe and quick procedure that produces micro holes in the nail to allow an anti fungal solution to reach the site of infection.

Athletes foot

Athletes foot (Tinea Pedis) is a common fungal skin infection usually found in between the toes and on the soles of the feet. This can lead to your feet being itchy and hot, causing the skin to peel and flake and sometimes resulting in a secondary infection. We can provide treatment and preventative advice for recurring infections.

Corns & Callus

Corns are small areas of thickened skin that develop on the balls of the feet or tops of the toes leading to pain and discomfort. These can be caused by pressure or poor footwear choices. Callus is a common foot concern caused by repeated pressure or friction leading to a build up of hard and thickened skin that can become uncomfortable. We will try to identify the cause and will use a scalpel to painlessly remove corns and callus, advising you on how best to prevent them from recurring.

Diabetic footcare

It is vital that people with diabetes understand the importance of looking after their feet and the complications that can occur with diabetes. Feet can be affected by loss of sensation and circulatory changes. We will evaluate the condition of your feet and advise you on how to prevent complications. We can offer regular nailcare and treatment of corns and callus along with providing advice on suitable footwear.

Ingrowing toe nails

Ingrowing toe nails (onychocryptosis) can be an extremely painful condition where part of the nail grows into the skin at the sides, leading to pain and often infection. This can be caused as a result of trauma or incorrect nail cutting. We can often deal with this conservatively as a routine podiatry treatment, cutting the ingrowing nail out and providing antibiotics if necessary.

Nail surgery

In cases of severe or persistent ingrowing toe nails we can offer a simple surgical procedure to permanently remove part or all of the nail that is causing the pain and discomfort. This procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia, with healing afterwards taking approximately 6-8 weeks.

Therapeutic Warm Wax

Application of warm wax and essential oils increases blood flow, tolerance for pain, hydration to the skin and relaxes muscles. It moisturises and softens the skin providing a therapeutic and healing effect. We can offer this treatment in conjunction with your routine podiatry treatment.

Verruca Treatment

Verrucas are a type of wart that commonly appears on the soles of the feet. They are caused by the human papilloma virus which infects the outer layer of the skin. They are contagious and often spread through direct contact or surfaces such as swimming pool floors or communal showers. We can offer advice on ways to treat them or help manage any pain that they cause.

Cryotherapy for verruca

At Rossendale Footcare we offer Cryotherapy using the CryoPen device. This is an advanced freeze treatment that works by emitting a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure which rapidly freezes the verruca tissue. It is a quick procedure that takes seconds however multiple treatments may be needed.

Swift treatment for verruca

Swift is a revolutionary treatment developed in the UK that utilises microwave technology to treat verrucas and warts. Swift has a success rate of around 80% (after 3 treatments) that has been proven in clinical trials making it one of the highest success rates in verruca treatments available. Safe and effective microwave impulses penetrate the skin and interact with the water molecules within the tissues heating them up and destroying the verruca virus after several treatments. This treatment does not break the skin and no dressings are required so there is no down time.
